Balancing the Pack and the Office: A Two-Day Team-Building Trip
As the proud owner of seven energetic Alaskan Malamutes and a full-time employee, life is anything but dull. Every day requires planning, commitment, and a strong sense of rhythm — both at home with the dogs and in my professional role. I had the opportunity to take part in a two-day team-building trip to Stockholm with my manager Mette and colleague Erik, and it was a refreshing reminder of how valuable both teamwork and community are — whether it’s at work or in the kennel.
Leaving the Pack in Good Hands
Before heading off, I made sure the dogs had their regular morning routine — food, fresh water, and a calm energy run. Knowing how important structure and stability are to the pack, I wouldn’t have gone if I didn’t have someone I trusted to look after them. Thankfully, my next-door neighbour Bo stepped in. Bo knows the dogs well and kindly agreed to take care of them overnight. It gave me peace of mind to know they were in caring and capable hands.
Day 1: Breaking into Banks & Boules Battles
Our first day was packed with fun and teamwork. We started with an escape room challenge — but not just any escape room. We were tasked with breaking into a bank and recovering top-secret documents before time ran out. It was intense, creative, and surprisingly similar to working with sled dogs: quick thinking, teamwork, and staying calm under pressure!
Later, we played indoor boules, which brought out our competitive sides in the best way. It was lighthearted and full of laughs, a great way to wind down after our high-stakes “heist.”
We ended the day with a relaxed dinner at a cozy Stockholm restaurant, enjoying good food and casual conversation. I checked in with Bo — the dogs were happy, well-fed, and resting after a quiet evening.
Day 2: Team Focus and Fresh Energy
The second day was more structured, with a focused team meeting where we shared updates, planned ahead, and discussed how to support each other better in the months to come. It was productive and positive, and stepping outside of our usual workspace gave the meeting a fresh perspective.
After a good lunch, we wrapped up and headed home. I was excited to return — and even more excited to be greeted by my tail-wagging crew, each one excited to see me (and maybe sniff out where I’d been).
The Balancing Act
This trip reminded me that with a little planning, support, and trust, it is possible to do both — give your all at work and still be fully committed to the dogs you love. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful for Bo, for my supportive team, and for my incredible dogs who were waiting for me at the door, ready to get back into our rhythm together.
